STREET MUSICIANS.

To the Editor of the Etjjnestj Stab. Sib, —Your correspondent " Frank,." Jn abusing the municipal, authorities for not.aid. ing and abetting street musicians, is about as right, as most other persons are, who get hold of ti one-sided story. The police, in the t-xercise of the Municipal Police Act, and to prevent obstructions, ordered them aiway; they then made an application to the City Council, who, having no power to over-ride the laws, declined to interfere. But I believe it was intimated to them that if they avoided crowded thoroughfares, in one or two of the main streets-of the city, unless special complaint was made, they would not be interfered with. They played after this onaSaturday night near the junction of-Queen and Shortlandstreets ; as a consequence the road was crowded, , and from the hansom cab 3 and other vehicles rapidly turning the corner, accidents would be likely to occur, they were ordered to move on. Apart from the question as to whether this community has a right to put up with a nuisance others are content to endure, I » .jj ut. uaA one or two persons been run over, your correspondent would have been equally indignant with the police and municipal authorities for their culpable careless* ness in allowing such a state of things in one of OUi* most crowded thoroughfares.—l am, &c, Peo Bono Pttbhco. P.S. The endeavours the Corporation are making to have a band once or twice a week in the Albert Barracks does not look like a disinclination to encourage music in a proper place.
