THE ROWING CLUB.
On Saturday afternoon the Auckland Eowing Club inaugurated their season by a procosion of boat?, on which occasion the whole of the boats of the Club were brought into requisition. There were six in all, viz., throe fouroared gigs, a pair-oared outrigger, and two single outriggers. The " procession" showed up about half-past three o'clock, and went twice from the boat-shed in Official Bay round the coal hulk off Mechanics' Buy. The bouts were accompanied along the lino of route by several sumll sailing craft;. The weather was very fine for the display, which puassd oil' successfully, but we think upon such an occasion ouch bout should have been bedecked with a couple of fiagri. After the procession, a scratch race took place between tho Spitfire and the Sons of Old Colonists, the crews of which wore pretty well matched. Now that the season has fairly commenced, we hope the club will set to work in real earnest, and that they will make an efford to send an efficient crew down io Olirietchurch to represent Auckland in Ilia forthcoming races at that place. With our harbour and our numbers of young men who are qualified to take part in boat racing, Auckland should sbuqd second to no province in the uolony in tho matter of aquatics.— Herold.
