BOAT ACCIDENT.

fcained the following particulars from
sufferers :—Ar about four o'clock tho bout left the Queen-street Wharf with three passcn Hers —Messrs. Fearnley, J.mies D. Clarke, and Morion. She was loaded with provisions, &C, to the value of over £10. :She laid up harbour with a fresh S.W. breeze, nnd when between the Watchman and Kami Point, übour half-an-hour after leaving the wharf, v sudden squull struck her, anil without the slightest warning she capsized ami filled with water. For a shott time the thiee men rlun» to tho boat, but finding it would not keep the whole of them afloat, Clarke struck off and made for a bus which was dnfting about, and after supporting himself for nearly an hour, struck out for the shore. When within about three hundred yards from Duck Creek, v boat belonging to Mr. Wilson put off and rescued the drowning man after he hud been upwurds of two hours in the water. Clarke was taken -"ashore and provided with a bed, and received every attention at tho residonee of Mr. Wilson. Yesterday morning, just as he was about leaving to walk overland, the police boat put in and conveyed him to Auckland. Messrs. Fearnley and Morton were saved by the steamer Gemini, which was, fort unatelv, late in coming down from Eiverbead. When taken on board they were almost, insensible, and Morton was in such v state that it was considered necessary to send him to the hospital. Fearnley was conveyed to tho Wnverly Hotel, whore he received every attention from the landlord, Mr. Taylor. Wo are glad to learn that both Messrs. Fearnley and Morton have now nearly recovered their shock, and will be ablo to return to their homes to-day. The boat, which was the property of Fearnley, was brought dowu by the Gemini; but of course the whole of its contents were lost. We should mention that the police boat, in charge of Constable Carrigan, was out in search of Clarke from 9 o'clock on Saturday evening until finding him txt Duck Creek. —Herald.
