The Caaeto-atfejßedPo SS TO. 1 Company of Naval Voluuteerß,fparaaed yesterday evemug, in good Force. They were put through their drill by Lieutenant Chapman, and acquitted themselves with great credit.
The usual weekly parade of the Auckland B'lttalion-jaf-Rifle Volunteers,will be.held this evening, iAs the weatherisfine, there'will in all probability be a good attendance; | The wharf presented an Immensely lively appearance this morning in consequence of the cargo of the Hero being discharged. Among this cargo is the plant of the new Water Company to be started at the Thames. Some of the pieces were very heavy, one of them weighiug.no less than ten toud... Special and strong shears had to tie-rigged, iip for the occasionj as the strain brought to bear was immense. The machinery lias been manufactured by Messrs. Walker and Co., of Ballarat, and appears to be very highly finished. The Hero will, probably, be fully discharged by to-morrow, and will leave on Saturday.
We are informed the Staff Corps Band will perform in the Albert Barracks on Saturday afternoon, from three o'clock till five o'clock (weather permitting), and will afterwards ■give an.■entertainment at the Theatre Royul, for the benefit of the Band. Mr. Gorman has kindly given the theatre and lights free ot charge for the occasion.
We observe that the contractors are rapidly proceeding with their work of cleaning the beach near the wharf. A deep channel is 'feeiiig'cut, which, when finished, and cleaned out, after every tide, will carry the offensive sewerage clean iulo the harbour.
