AMUSEMENTS.
Murray's Hippodeome. —As we expected, the sports on Saturday afternoon proved a great success, and an immense crowd visited the Albert Barracks. This afternoon there also appears every probability of a large attendance. There is to be a great variety of events, and. in some, of them non-professionals will he. enabled to test their process. Mr. Murray lias liberally undertaken to hand over half the proceeds to benevolent institutions, and this circumstance alone, and apart from the intrinsic merit of the performance, will, we have ho doubt, ensure a large attendance.
The American Excelsioh Mjinstefls. —This talented troupe has returned to Auckland after a successful stay at the Thames, and will appear jit the-City Hall1 this evening, wlien it is to be hoped that their admirers will rally round, them in numbers, for their performances are renlly among the beat that we have seen in this city, and, since their departure, the company has been reinforced by the arrival of a gentleman who bears the name of being one of the best performers in the world ou that ancient instrument the harp. Another-gentleman who has joined the force is announced as a firstclass- Ilianipulator of the violoncello ; and', another understands the mailagement of that curious instrument —the1 banjo,' "* and is besides comic dancer and Ethiopian comediiin. The troupe_ is, therefore, now in every respept perfect, and we hkve no doubt will give the utmost satisfaction to even the most hypercritical. Pbince oi? Wales THBATBE.-^On Saturday evening rthe drama called r The streets of Paris," was produced before a large audience, and was successfully played. The piece is of a sensational diameter, and is full of thrilling incident. Mrs. Hill, Miss Stephenson, and; Mr. Burford, are specially deserving of com-' mendation for the manner in which they performed their several parts, and tbe whole piece passed off well. This evening has been set apart for, a, complimentary; benefit, to Mr. P. Varley, the talented scenic artist of the theatre.
