THE PROSECUTIONS.
We beg authoritatively to contradict the absurd rumours of the prosecutions in the two recent assault cases having been abandoned. It is felt this is not a matter of personal concern, but as affecting the liberty of the Press, that is, of public opinion ; and however uupleasant the duty, it must be performed on grounds of public duty.
