SERIOUS ACCIDENT AT THE TOKATEA TRAMWAY.
The p.s. Lalla Rookh arrived last night from Coromande', baying been chartered to convey Mr. J. McSweeney, of the Little Wonder claim, who got badly injured through having been thrown from one of the trucks of the Tokatea Tramway. The accident occurred as follows :- As Mr. Me3weeney was walking down the tramway, his foot turned under him, and he asked the man who works the trucks on the last grade to let him go down on tho truck, and ho according got on and stood in front. Ere they had proceeded far the breaksman lost all control of tho truck, it starting off at great speed. In a short tima il. not offtheru'ls, ran against the bank, upset, and threw Mr. McSwi-eney with groat violence to the ground, whereby Iks sustained a large gush in the groin. No doctor being in the place, tho Rev. P. O'Reilly was quickly on the spot, and with the assistance of Mr...Glover of the Royai Hotel, sewed up the wound, and did.all in their power for the patient. The steamer, not being advertised to leave Coromandel before to-day, the rev. gentleman and Mr. O'Connell waited on the captain, when he, with his usual courtesy and kindness, agreed to immediately proceed to Auckland with the sufferer. On the Lalla Rookh arriving last night, a stretcher was immediately procured, and the wounded man conveyed to the Aurora Hotel, Victoria-street. - -' j
