PARLIAMENTARY.
The House of Delegates met for the dispatch of business? on the 9th'August. The main business was tho formation of a (Constitution for Fiji. A bill of seventyeight clauses has been framed and intro* dueed with this preamble :—"• Whereas by an Act known as the ' Constitution Act of Bail,' it was, among other things, enacted ' That it shall be lawful for the King to assemble delegates to alter the provisions or laws for the time being;in, force under the Act.' Aiid whereas itys expedient to establish in the said kingdom a Legislative House of Representatives, :and to vest in them the powers and functions hereinafter mentioned : Be it therejfore enacted by the King and the Delegates in Council now Assembled, -as (follows : — That, from and after the passingof this Act, the ' Constitution Apt' of 1867, and the .'Amended Constitution Act' of ]569, are hereby repealed." The [bill was read a second time, and carried. | A Cabinet meeting was held on the ,11th August. It is confidently asserted that, at the request of. the chiefs.themselves, arrangements are being made to constitute native delegates a separate Assembly. 'All matters, ifc is said, concerning tho>i!State will be deliberated upon by them amongst themselves. Seats.on the floor of the" House will, however, by courtesy be allowed to them and to interpreters, but beyond this they will take no further part in the proceedings.' Slirt
