MELBOURNE.
August 3.—The new Tariff met with considerable opposition in the Assembly yesterday evening, but the majority are apparently favourable to it.—Mr. Commissioner Noel has decided that the settlement made by a squatter named Dallymore of £30,000 on his wife, prior to his insolvency, ie illegal.—ln reply to' Mr. Woods, Mr. Longmore Btated that the Inspector of Railway Plant for Victoria in London has received £3000 a-year in fees.— Mr. McGregor h»s given notice of moving, that the duty on spirits be increased to 12s 6d per gallon; on wine, ss; and on opium, 12s per pound.—The profits for the half-year of tho. National Insurance Company are £780. If is probable that, in export, a duty will be placed on e.orap iron.—Candles, be ß t brands, lid per pound.
