The American expedition to Corea was fired upon by masked batteries while taking soundings near shore. A battle ensued; Corean batteries destroyod ; land forts scattered by shells.
American Admiral telegraphs via Hongkong (to which point telegraph is completed), that ho would follow up fight next day, and bring Coreans to terms.
Bkussells. —The churches and many houses are illuminated to-night in honor of tho Papal Anniversary, but tho celebration is attended with some disorder. Violent anti-Papal demonstrations are mado by large crowds who pass through the streets and smash illuminated windows. The ti-oops still keep within the barracks, but a force of special constables has been called out, and seroral arrests have been irade.
London, \Tuly 19.—The Pope's Jubilee was celebrated with great ceremony and enthusiasm in all parts of Ireland.
Two vessels with yellow fever among the crews have arrived in English ports.
Brussels, July 19.—A special correspondent Bajs that tho civic authorities were compelled to interfere to maintain order. Tho troops Usod tho bayonet, aud several were hurt. The Internationals were the ringleaders.
The £ toxic Beige says that sixty- eight arrests vrcrc made yesterday and last night, nioinly of members of the International Society.
