VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

Last evening a meeting of the members of No. 6 Company Auckland Rifle Volunteers ■was held at the Drill-shed; Captain Batger in the chair. The subject under discussion was the advisability of that company seceding from the battalion. It was resolved to do co unanimously, and the resolutions agreed to at the meeting of No. 3 Company on Friday, ■were carried unanimously. They were as follow: —" That it is expedient that No. 6 Company should secede from the Auckland battalion of Rifle Volunteers, for the purpose of forming a new battalion, in conjunction with companies 2,3, and 4. That the officers of the company be authorised to confer with the officers of the companies named, and in conjunction with them to take all necessary steps for carrying out the foregoing resolutions. That the officers of the associated companies be requested to draw up a code of rule?, to be submitted to a combined meeting of said companies as early as possible." A motion was also carried condemning the remarks of " An Old Volunteer/1 which appeared in this journal, and which reflected upon Major Gordon, and three cheers were given for the gallant Major. The proceedings then concluded. A meeting of No. 2 Company was held at the same time, when precisely similar action was taken and similar resolutions were passed. At another meeting of this company held afterwards, at which about 30 members were present, and Lieut. Matthews in the chair, Mr. E. Macdonald was elected secretary. A discussion then took place on the question of filling up the vacancy caused by the resignation of Captain Rees ; and G. Yon der Heyde, Esq , nas proposed as a candidate, and elected unanimously, if he is willing to accept the position.—A deputation was appointed to wait upon Mr. Yon tier Heyde on the subject, and inform him what action had been taken.—A vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the proceedings.
