DEDWOOD HIGHWAY BOARD. ANNUAL MEETING.
.„ Last evening the annual meeting of the 3 Dedwood Highway Board was held at the { . Suffolk Hotel, College-street, p Mr. Stanaus Jones occupied the chair. i, The report for the past year was read )fc by Mr. Boardman, from which it apb peared that the total sum received by the & trustees duri»g their term of office amounted to £824 16s. 10d'., viz.:—From r> rates, £458 6s. lOd.; from General Go>f vernment, £274; subscriptions in aid, £74 c 10s ; Provincial Government, £10; dog a collars, £8 j—which had been paid as fols loirs :—Format'on of roads, £4107 17s. d sd. ; channelling and metalling, £344 T 3s. 9d. ; culverts, £10 ; sundries, !; £25 7s. lid'; advertising, £5 10s. * 3d.; commission, £28 17s. 6d. ; total, 11 £824 16s. 10d.—The report recommended the forming and metalling => (16 feet wide) Cox's Bay ■; Road, also the Shelly Beach Road, Mount St. Mary's road, making a junction with Collegel. street. There was reason to expect, by 8 judicious action, economipal expenditure, the personal inspection and superintena dence of the trustees, they would have r excellent roads throughout the district. In answer to a question from Mr. J. S McLeod, the Chaibmamt ruled that no '> person who had not paid his rates was '« entitled to take part in the meeting. 5 Mr. Keesing suggested that Mr. McLeod should pay his rates. ' 7 After some further discussion, the . Chaieman called upon Mr. Boardman to 9 read the statement ot accounts, which j was done, and gave satisfaction to th« t majority of the meeting. A three-halfpenny rate was then struck, and the following gentlemen were elected t trustees for the ensuing year : —Messrs. t 8. Jones, Tole, Boardman, McKinstry, i Mason. ) It was resolved to sue the ratepayers 3 whose names were on the defaulters' list ■ —the list to be hung in a conspicuous place,—a month to be given to the rate--1 payers to bring in the money. i It was also resolved that the list of ) defaulters should be advertised in the i two leading newspapers. t A vote of thanks was passed to the out- ■ going trustees and the chairman.
