SPECIMENS FROM THE CALE-
DONIAN.
INVERNESS AND EL DORADO
CRUsHINGS
, 3.15 p.m. , • Over three hundredweight of magnificent specimens have just been taken out from the reef going towards the Otago, in addition to a large quantity from the main reef.
El Dorado crushing —-34 tons yielded 68 ounces.
The Inverness crushing of 150 tons gave 231£ ounces.
The Caxedonian.—There is now no doubt but that the gold met with towards the boundary of the Otago in the lower level 'of the Caledonian mine is an entirely distinct run to that hitherto worked, and shows indications of great richness. On Saturday morning an excellent seam of golden stone four inches wide is visible from the top to the bottom of the drive. The character of the country is also much improved, there being a fine ohunnel of soft sandstone to work through. The reef itself is a splendid leoking lode, and is thickly impregnated with mundic, antimony, cinnibar, and other minerals. Some very fine specimens were found in this part of the mine on Saturday, and the present run being found seventy feet nearer to the Otago boundary than the run already worked on, caused a great advance in scrip in the latter claim. Other parts of the mine look as well as ever. Another parcel of 396 ozs. of gold was lodged in the bank on Saturday evening, making the total quantity on hand 3,596 ozs. Specimen crushing will comnjeuce ear ]y this week, there being now a large quantity on himd.
