Copies of a petition for a commutation of the sentence of death passed on the unhappy man Muirhead are distributed and are awaiting signatures. The single fact that Muirhead's father died insane, as we are informed, taken in conjunction with the circumstances attending the murder in the Waikato, should really pled for mercy to the unfortunate man. And we sincerely hope that the petition to His Excellency will be larjfrly signed and that, it will have the effect intended.

As will bo seen from another column, the members of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of the Loyal Good Intent Lodge are requested to meet, to-morrow, at the Lodge Room in the British Hotel, to attend the funeral of a deceased brother. Visiting brethren are also invited to attend.
