MRS. LEWIS'S ANNUAL BIRTHDAY PARTY.
One of those delightful reunions for which Mrs. Lewis's Ladies' School is noted took place last night. The Drillshed was engaged for the occasion, the upper end of which was beautifully fitted up as a drawing-room, carpeting and bunting giving a comfortable and elegant appearance to the usually bald interior of the Drill - shed, while mottoes of " Welcome," " Many happy returns of the day," and similar appropriate legends, expressed the sentiment of the occasion. There were fully 500 persons present, including the young ladies, their friends, and' the elite of Auckland. Tho appearance of the ball-room was animated andcharming in the extreme, the youthful loveliness of Mrs. Lewis's pupils contributing in no small degree to the attractions of the scene. Dancing was kept up till one o'clock in the morning with great spirit, a pleasant variety being afforded in the vocal and instrumental performances of the young ladies. Eev. O. M. Nelson, incumbent of St. Paul's, distributed the prizes won by the pupils. We are precluded by want of space from giving a fuller report of the proceedings.
