HARBOUR BOARD.
At the meeting of the Harbour Board yesterday, the first of whose proceedings we gave in. our issue of yesterday, there was a great deal of important preliminary pusiiiess transacted. Besides the items previously enumerated, plans for the improvement of the harbour were submitted ; a letter was read from the Chief Postmaster, suggesting arrangements for the accommodation of the California!! mailboats. The report on the financial condition of the Harbour Trusts was adopte J. A report on the Endowments was postponed for further enquiry. The report on the state of the wharves was adopted. A report was brought up with reference to the required officers of the Board, and their salaries. It was recommended a chairman at £150, a secretary at £300, as cleric at £150, and an assistant clerk at £50 per annum. This portion of the report was adopted. A recommendation for the erection of offices on the site of the Maori Market was postponed for the present. Captain Daldy was elected permanent chairman, the appointment to be submitted for confirmation by the Board ■ n the formation of By-laws. A draft copy; of By-laws was submitted and ordered to be printed. And a meeting was fixed to be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m., for thft confirming of -By-laws and election of officers.
