"We cannot too Highly commend the self-sacrificing spirit evinced in the recommendation made to the Harbour Board by its committee with reference to- the erection of offices for the Board. And though by amendment the immediate building of the offices had been deferred, we presume that the site recommended may be regarded as having received thp sanction of the harbour authorities. Most bodies in selecting the scene for their deliberations choose the choicest sites ; .the committee of the Harbour Board have fixed their affections on a position the most generally undesirable in the city. Others like salubrity of air. The Harbour Board must have a preference for stinks, and in the.intended offices in the Maori market, built over the archway, by which the filth of the city flows into the harbour, will have an opportunity of showing the citizens the folly of the complaints that have been so often made regarding the offensive exhala-
tions from the intake. We would suggest that the meetings of the Uoard should be fixed for the hours at which tho tide has ebbed, so that tho full advantages of the magnificent position may be enjoyed.
