THEATRE ROYAL.
One of the largest assemblages that have been seen in the Theatre kloyal was present last night, to witness tho first representation of Mr. Utting's new drama, " The Great World of London." We have not space to criticise in full the play, or the manner of its performance, but are glad to be able to say that the affair was a complete success. There were some minor defects in the accessories to proper scenic effect, especially iv the court scene, somewhat marring the otherwise satisfactory representation. The plot is well arranged, full of striking incidents, and excellently wrought out, and we can really congratulate the talented author on his first essay in the dramatic art. We sincerely trust it will not be the last of Mr. Utting's efforts at placing the mirror up to nature. The house was a bumper benefit to Mr. Joyce, who, as also the author, was called before the curtain to receive the plaudits of the spectators. The play will be re; produced to-night and lor some nights succeeding, and we do not hesitate to say that familiarity with jbe parts will present the play in a manner that will make it a decided favourite with play-goers.
