Albuknia. —This claim is now assuming a position it is fairly, entitled to; but as many of your readers are not aware of the extent and value of the ground held by this company, I have taken the I rouble to ascertain the following facts, which I am sure will be read with interest. This company bears the original name with which it commenced operations, but except in name, the whole of its belongings havd been changed—none of the original dircctc rs remain, and few of the original shareholders. The ground originally held bj' the Alburnia Company was seven men's ground ; now the company holds about 80 men's ground, acquired from time to time t>v purchase for cash aud by amalgamation iii exchange for shares in the company. The area now held by the company comprises the following claims: — . . Men's ground. Original Alburnia ... ... ... 7 Pride of the West Q Alburnia and Pride of the West No. 2 16 Success, which includes the original Point in View and Star of the Nortli 18 Star of the South, Papatoctoe, and Carpenters' claims ... ... ... 20 Ballarat Star, Clyde, with surplus ground taken up, at least 13
Making a total of about ... 80 men's ground, upon which the company have crushing plant of fifteen head of stamps, to which the company are about to add five head of stamps and a new boiler. The lode upon which they are now working their richest and best stone, is the celebrated Dixon's reef, and branches from it. This lode traverses the entire length of the company's ground, and dips into it. The underlie, it is calculated, will not leave the ground at a depth of 1000 feet. Besides this lode, other well-known reefs traverse the ground—the Black Angel reef supposed to be identical with the Middle Star reef ; the leaders and reefs worked in the Star of the North and Point in View, formerly with good results ; and also the reefs worked in the Star of the South, Carpenters', Clyde, and Ballarat Star. The shares originally issued in the Alburnia were 2100, but siuce iucreased for the purposes of amalgamation to 3,700, and an agreement now exists for the issue of further shares for ground recently taken in, which will make the total number of shares in this company up to 4000. The directors are Messrs. T. Russell, S. Browning, W. C. Wilson, William Howe, and William Morrin. The information I have thus given may, I think, justify my recent comments on this mine, and satisfy the shareholders that they have a most valuable property. I make no further comments. The . foregoing facts will speak for themselves.
