NEW CALEDONIA.
We are in receipt of newspapers from Noumea from the 12th of April to the 26th of that month. The Monitcur de la JV.C, of the 12th ultimo, published a report on the situation of the goldmines at Mouendine, sent in 16 the Governor of the colony on the 2nd of April, by M. Tonriot, lieutenant in the navy, and officer in command of the district of Oubatch. Amongst the passengers out from Europe by the Kauce was M. Hippolite Auguste G-irard, Commissaire de la Marine,' appointed by a decree (dated the Gb)i of August", 1870) Commandant of the French settlements in Oceanic, and Commissary of the Tahitian Group. M. G-irard, during his short stay at Noumea, was the guest of Monsieur and Madame de la Richerie, at GovernmentHouse. • A fire burst out at the police station, near the Orphanage, at Noumea, during the night of the 11th of March last. The loss of property is estimated at about eight thousand francs.
