Br the arrival of the Kate, from Sydney, we are 'placed in possession of files to the 6th instant, from which we extract markets and shipping intelligence, as well as the following additional telegraniß to those received via the South, and published by us on Monday last : MELBOURNE. May 2.—At a meeting of the shareholders of the Bank, the report wa9 adopted. Messrs. Lorimer, Goodman, Dill and Rolfe have been elected directors ; the ballot was as follows : Lorimer, 1449 ; Dill, 1414; Goodman, 1207; Rolfe, 1144; Smith, 667; Macnamara, 350 ; Watt, 169. —In the Assembly, the Eight Hours Bill was read a first time. The debate on the Address has been resumed.—The will of Scott, who is connected with the Baillie .murder mystery at Fiji, has been found. He bequeaths a considerable quantity of his Melbourne property to Miss Baillie. May 3.—Tiie Assembly adopted the Address in reply without a division. A bill for amending the criminal law lias been introduced and read a first time; it contains a clause for the use of the lash in cases of offences agninst females. The Permissive Liquor Bill has been read a first time. Some discussion took place on the land question and railway extension, and the House adjourned.—A street preacher, named Jansen, has been in a trance for a week in Ballarat Hospital.— Scott's will conveys only his personal effects to Miss Baillie ; his real property is conveyed to Miss Colville.—Samuel Endis, a passenger by the Derwent, has been arrested on a charge of larceny ; 170 sovereigns were found in his possession.—The Governor is suffering from sciatica. May 4.—At auction, New Zealand wheat has been sold at 6s. 4£d.; Adelaide flour, bearing country brands, £15 10s.; maize 4s. 2\d. — The Mining Criminal Laws Amendment Bill, and the Eight Hour Labour Bill, are before the House ; the latter has passed the second reading.—The Hunt Club meeting has been postponed for a fortnight; the entries will be received on the 13th instant.:—lt is rumoured here that the members of the Naval Brigade refuse to servo under Lieutenant Pantar, of the Cerberus, monitor.—Louis Armstrong, an incarcerated insolvent, applied for his release ; the Judge ordered him to find sureties to the amount of £200 that he would not leave the colony. He arrived here on a visit from Fiji. —The Ballarat Foundry has obtained the contract for the pumps for the 'I ookey claim, at the Thames, New Zealand, although a Sydney firm contracted at a lower rate, but required longer time.—The Governor- is recovering from an attack- of sciatica.— Flour is quoted at £15 10s ; and wheat at 7s Id ; the high quotations for the latter have stopped sales. Hennessv's brnndy is quoted at 29s ; sugars are active.
