THE EUEEKA CONTROVEESY. The following is the letter in which Mr. GarJick is threatened with legal proceedings. We had intended producing it in our issue of yesterday, but were prevented by press of matter. A perusal of the names of the directors is quite sufficient to produce the conviction that with the consent of tho majority nothing half so foolish as a prosecution of Mr. Garlick will be attempted. We do not know who are the " two directors of the company " who seek Mr. G-arlick's blood ; but we think the public should know the names of the two nincuinpoops who have lent themselves as tools to the hands of the " bulls and bears" of. the share market.

Auckland, April 25, 1871. Sic, —I am instructed by (he directors of the Eureka Gold Mining Company to write to you respecting a notification which, you published outside your office yesterday, respecting that company, which whs as follows:— "Eureka all a swindle: speculation on strength of what Kuranui doing." I need scarcely mention that such language is not only calculated seriously to damage the property of the company, but it iilso° casts upon the directors and all concerned a most infamous imputation of attempting to dcfraifd the public by means of a swindle ;—in other words, the language means nothing less than that the directors or proprietors of the Eureka Company are conspiring, by means of: a swindle, to cheat the public. I have, there-' fore, to inform you, that unless you tender

to me in writing, thia evening, in tini3 for publication in the morning papers, a full and ample apology, satisfactory to at least two of (lie directors of the company, and also pay my clients' costs incidental to this matter, proceedings will be taken against you—either criminal or civil, as may be advised, for the publication of a false, wicked, and malicious libel.—l am, &c, JR. W. Wyiot, per F. D. J". T. Garlick, Esq.
