MINING INTELLIGENCE

The Central Italy Company have turned their attention steedily to proving the resources of their mine, and for the purposo of carrying out the works have made a call, and also let a contract for sinking the main shaft another fifty feet. There is, we learn, a good country to sink through, and when the present contract has been completed the shaft, will hare attained a depth of fcwo hundred and twenty feet. The new contractors will have to push forward the sinking with all haste possible, so as to lo3e no time in cutting the reef 'ov which they arc 6inking. A whim is also to be erected, for up to the present the stuff has had to be drawn up by a windlass and bucket, which, owing to the depth of the shaft is no longer possible.

During the last two shifts there were fire hundredweight of specimens taken out of the Caledonian mine. Yesterday 28 hundred■v? eight were sent te the mill, and seven head, of stampers were set to work upon it. There are at present a greater quantity of specimens on hand than at any previous crushing, but they are not so rich. As we before remarked, very little stone has yet been taken out of the rich vein which accompanies the main lode.

There was a very brisk inquiry for Cures yesterday, in consequence of a find in the new reef of the Golden Crown, within some 40 feet of the boundary. The report at first was that gold had been struck in the Cure, but this is incorrect. No gold has yet been found thei'e, bufc the run iof gold which was struck on Tuesday night in the Golden Crown is striking towards the Cure. Consequently there are now slight grounds for the riße that has taken place in the scrip. Ab soon as the winze now being sunk is down to, the level, the manager, we learn, intends to open out on the reef, and at ouce commence taking out crushing stuff. As stated in the previous paragraph, a run of gold lias been struck in the Golden Crown mine while driving along the new lode towards the Cure boundary. The reef strikes in a northerly direction, having taken a bend. A boxful of very nice specimens was taken out yesterday, and as the reef is about twelve feet thick, and the shot of gold well denned and apparently continuous, the find is an important one. The drive along |the reef extends to within forty or fifty feet along the Cure boundary. Last night another iot of very fine specimens were taken out from this part of the reef.
