POLICE COURT.—Tuesday

Dbunkenness.—W. Thompson, for being drunk, was fined ss. and costs, or to be imprisoned 24 hours with hard labour; and Michael Burns, for being drunk and disorderly, was fined 20s. and costs, or to be imprisoned 48 hours with hard labour.

Malicious Injuby.—The same defendant was, on the evidence of Constable Jeffrey, convicted of having wilfully and maliciously destroyed property, and was fined 40s and costs, or to bo imprisoned one month with bard labour.

Threatening Language.— Joseph Couzens was charged by Mary Couzens with having used threatening language towards her.—Mr. Beveridge for complainant; Mr. Wynn for defence. — Mary Couzens deposed : On the 12th instant I was washing; dcfendent wa3 drinking, and I tried to coax him to go to bed ; he would not, but said he would brand me and take my life; lam afraid he will do tne some bodily harm ; he sold the furniture lor £50 in hand ; he formerly out my face with a bottle.—B. E. Turner corroborated the previous evidence, and defendant was bound over to keep the peace for three months in his own bond for £50, and two sureties for £25 each.

Refused.—Oddfellows' Arms; W. Bacon made application for a renewal. The Inspector of Police reported that it was supported only by thieves and prostitutes, and the licence was refused. Royal Oak, applied for by J. Beck. Reported that the house is in ruins. Refused accordingly. Hibernia, applied for by S. Brown. It wiis reported that the house is the resort of thieves, and that the present manager is wholly iiiifit to hold a licence. Refused. Tattersalls, refused to J. Hanson on the grounds of there being no bedrooms. Mechanics' House of Call, refused to P. McArthur on the grounds that 1 lie hotel has been supported by thieves and prostitutes. Eagle Inn, tho property of the Provincial Government, refused on account of the building being in a ruinous state.

Bush Licenses.—lt was decided by the Bench with reference to applications for bush licenses that., as under the new Act, they were not within the jurisdiction of the Court, they should be simply transmitted to the Superintendent, in accordance with the Act. The following were the applications so transmitted : —Ferry Hotel, North Shore, P. Callau ; Riverhead Hotel, T. W. Deacon ; Sportsman's Arms, Waitakerie East, E. Ellis ; , M. Meaney ; Kaipara Hotel, C. Nelson; Waikomiti Hotel, J. Papperton; Mahurangi, J. Sonthgate; Bridge Inn, Lucas' Creek, W. Stevenson; Waiwera Hotel, J. Sullivan.

Wholesale Licenses.—Certificates were given for enabling the granting of the following wholesale licenses : —Combes and Daldy ; Brown, Campbell aud Co.; Must and Co.; L. D.
