VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE
PRIZE FIRING OF NO. 2 COMPANY,
Yesterday twelve of the best shots of No. 2 Company Rifle Volunteers proceeded to the butts, One-Tree Hill, to compete for three prizes generously presented by the Captain of the corps. The prizes were a silver cup or medal, at the option of the winner, and two money prizes, value £3 and £2. The ranges were 300, 400, and 500 yards,—five shots at each range. The weather was very boisterous, the wind blowing strongly during the whole time of the firing; the consequence was that the shooting was by no means good. Captain Rees was on the ground, and superintended the firing. The following were the successful competitors : —Private Evitt, first prize, 43 points ; Sergeant Cameron, second prize, 32 points; Private Gleeson, third prize, 30 points. The men returned to town about four o'clock.
