Drunkenness.—J. M. Hewitt, R. Smithers, and Peter Buddy were punished in the usual manner.

Dbunk and Disobdebly.—Mary McManus and J. Hennery, were fined 20s each and costs, or* to be imprisoned for 48 hours, for this offeuce.

LAUCEMr.—M. Tierny was charged with having stolen a hat and coat worth 30s. On tho application of Sergeant Prady tho case was remanded until the following clay. Mttnicipai, Pomce.—A. MiehallS and J. Whitely, for not having their names on their carts, were fined each 5s and Co3ts. Mr. G-oldwater, for allowing a goat to stray, was fined 5s and costs. " ■'■? X f

Licensing Act, 1871.— J. Paterson, of the Fitzroy Hotel, was fined Is and costs for not having a light burning over his front door. —Edward Perkins, of the Occidental Hotel, was charged with haying kept hia house open after hours on the ni^hfr of April 3.—Mr. Wynn appeared for the defence—Sergeant Walker deposed that the side door was open at 20 minutes past 12 o'clock, on the 3rd instant. There was a small Viudow at the end of the passage leading into the bar, where the barmaid was standing with a g'ass of old torn or gin and a glass of ginger-beer served out to two men who were standing at,the bar. They were not lodgers.—Cross-examined by Mr. Wynn : Could not swear that the drink was not sweet spirits of nitre ; knew.the time from the town clock; did not know whether it recorded correct time.—Mr. Wynn addressed the bench at length in reply.—Fined 10s. and CO3tS.

Allowing- Peostittjtes to Assemble. — Robert Haywood was charged, under the Auckland Municipal Police Act, with having allowed "prostitutes to assemble at the par of his hotel.—Mr. Wynn and Mr. Joy for tlie defence.—-Sergeant Walker deposed that on tlie night in question, about 10 o'clock, he went into tho room off the side bar and found a 'number of men and. women assembled where refreshments and' liquors were sold, some of. them being partly under the influence of drink. The women were notorious prostitutes. Had often seen similar conduct, and defendant had been repeatedly cautioned.— Cross-examined by Mr. Wvnn.—Constable

Wadman gave similar evidence. —The, case was,, dismissed, on the grounds that it had not been shown that defendant was' the holder of the license to the hotel.

George Eowley, was charged by Georgina Rowley, his wife, with having assaulted her by dragging her cut of bed, and abused her, on 30th March. Mr. Wynn for. the prosecution. Mr. 13rock for the defence. —Georgina Rowley deposed that she was the wife of Gt-eorgo Eowley, of the Hib.ernia Ho.el, in Wakeficld-street. Was in bed on tho afternoon of the 30th. Defendant found the door open, dragged her out of the bed on the floor, then took her in his arms and threw her down stairs ; then followed, and flung her out of the back door. Was half-dressed at the time. He had repeatedly ill-treated her before by striking her in the face. She is afraid to return to the house. On returning, he again threw her out of the door.—Cross-examined bvMr. Brock. —Elizabeth Reynolds corroborated the previous evidence in every particular. Defendant was bound over to keep the peace for six months, himself in £50, and two sureties iv £25 each. Costs allowed.

* Latjcbby.—Henry Lowell, alias W. H. Waters, pleaded guilty to having stolen goods and money to the value of £3 13s. Gd., from William Edgecombe, of the Northern Hotel, Great North Road. To be imprisoned six months with hai'd labor.
