The Evening Star. WEDNESDA Y, MARCH 29, 1871.
In the hearing of the Parnell assault case, on Monday last, in the Police Court, as reportod in our issue of that day, certain intemperate language was sworn to by the plaintiff a3 having been used to him by defendant. The latter feels aggieved at the case having been dismissed so suddenly, before he had time to disprove the statement, and gives his distinct and unqualified denial to his having ever used the words attributed to him by the complainant.
The Trustees of the Dedwood Highway District give notice that all rates unpaid on Tuesday next will be handed to a Solicitor for recovery. Attendance is given by the Collector, from 11 to 2, each day, to receive rates at Mr. Vaile's office, Canada Buildings. Money is urgently required to complete the improvements in Ponsonbay Boad, Woodstreet, Alma Place, New-street, Mount St. Mary Road, Shelly Beach Road, College Hill, and Cox's Bay Road.
A meeting of the creditors of Kobert Oliphant Stewart is fixed for the 4th of April, at the Supreme Coiirt.—A meeting of the creditors of Robert Thomas is fixed for the 3rd of April.—Notice is given that G-eorgo Henry Evans haa filed a declaration of insolvency.

On and after the Oth of May a dividend will be paid in the estate of William Vickery.
A large number of cadc-fcs were yesterday sworn in, in connection with the Auckland rifle battalion. In the evening they mustered at the Drill-she J, and were put through a preliminary course of drill.
A public meeting of the electors of Eust Ward No. 1 wili be held at the City Board office at noon on Tuesday, the 4th of April, for the purpose of electing a member to serve on the City Board for the said ward. A similar notice appears in reference to the election of a member to represent West Ward No. 1.
Tenders are required for the performance of certain works in the Mount Eden Highway District.
Notice is given in our advertising columns that the annual prize firing of the Auckland Rifle Volunteers will take place on Easter Monday, and the following days if necessary.
