March 16. —Mr. Strode has refused to proceed in Mr. Lemon's case, on the ground that it will not stand the preliminary hearing.— Mr. Gisborne has accepted Mr. Brunton's offer of reconnaisanee for the survey of the railway between Matanra and Balelutha.— Major Richardson has been thrown from his carriage, and lias received a_ severe scalp wound. —The work has been commenced on the Chitha railway. The Governor turns the first sod on Saturday, and leaves town on Monday.
