CYCLONE AT MAURITIUS.
On the -lth and sth of January a cyclone passed to the northward of tha island.*" During the consequent atmospheric disturbance a heavy rain fell at Mauritius. The quantity of rain that fell in the forty-eight hours varied from 30 inches in the highest parts of the island to 8 inches in the lowest. Many parts of the island were inundated by tha overflowing of rivers and the torrents from the mountains, but it does not appear that any damage was done. * I
