PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHAPEL.
Last evening the annual tea meeting in conI nection with the Edwardes-street Primitive Methodist Chapel was held in the school-room adjoining. An excellent meal was provided, to which nearly two hundred persons sat down, and did ample justice. The tables were very prettily arranged with flowers, &c, and a number of decorations, in the shape of mottoes, &c, were hung up round the room, and did much to give the place a light and graceful appearance. i After tea the guests adjourned to the chapel, when Mr. Cheese: 'man was Toted to the chair ; and the public commenced with singing and ! prayer. The little chapel was quite 1 full, the principal attendants being ; the members 'of the congregation and their friends.r The chairman in the course of his opening remarks referred to the departure df the late pastor, the Rev. Mr. Dean, anl paid a well-merited compliment to the abilities of that gentleman, who, during the period,of his charge, had labored earnestly and zealously in the good cause ; and he was quite sure that it had been a source of regret to all connected with the chapol that he bad been removed to fill another sphere in which he would no doubt be equally useful. The members however- had much to bo thankful for, as Mr. Dean's place was filled by a. gentleman who was equally earnest for! the welfare of tho chapel. During the past year they had no reason to complain of any lukewarmneßs on tli© part ,of the congregation, which was both; large and constant in its attendance, and on.the whole the present year was ushered; in with great promise. In a financial point of view matters were equally satisfactory, and under all the circumstances the congregation had great reason to congratulate themselves on their position. The meeting was afterwards addressed by the Rev. Dr. Wallis, the Rev. T. Booker, the Rev. Mr. Watters, Mr. J. Allen, and others; between each speaker sacred pieces were pei'formed by the choir, and a very pleasant evening was spent. The singing of the doxology brought the proceedings to a close.
