PRIZE FIRING.

The firing for the district prizes, first set of the second district, came off on Saturday. The weather was unfavourable, and the day far from convenient. Only fifteen competitors attended. Major Tisdall was on the ground, and Lieutenants Somerville and Morrow acted alternately at the butts, assisted by SergeantsMajor Haslam and Broughton. The first prize, of £10, was won by Volunteer Provo ; the second, of £8, by Volunteer Hyett; the third, of £6, by Lieutenant Somerville : the fourth, of £5, by Volunteer Bell; and the fifth, of £i, by Lieutenant Morrow. The sixth prize, of £3, was lost, as the prescribed number of thirty points was not obtained. The following is the score :—
