We regret to announce the death of a wellknown and respected settler, Mr. Wilson, of the firm of Messrs. Wilson, Hamilton and Co., Vuna Point, Tavinui. The deceased gentleman left here per Coquette, for Vuna, on Sunday, 29th January, which was not reached until Wednesday, on account of the bad weather. He was suffering from diarrhoea, and died on Friday morning. On the same aftemoou he was committed to the earth. The sad part of it is that he has ouly been married a few months. — Fiji Times, February 8. Tenders arc required by the Paruell High- j way Board for the supply of broken metal and scoria ash. A soiree, concert, and dance, will take place at the Otahuhu Public Hall to-morrow evening. The anniversary services in connection with the Primitive Methodist Chapel, Edwar*desstreet, were held yesterday. In the morning the Bey. J. Berry preached ; iv the afternoon the Rev. R. MacNiccol delivered an address ; and the Rev. C. Waiters preached the evening sermon. The attendance was very good at each service, and collections were made in aid of the chapel funds. The Thames Cold Mining Company will paid a dividend of _61 per scrip at noon to-day. This will amount to £0,000 —there being 6,000 shares. A meeting of gentlemen interested in the formation of a Mining Exchange at the Thames, convened by advertisement, was held last evening at the Pacific hotel. There were present —Messrs. Skene (in the choir), O'Keeffe, Poingdcstre, Percival, Philp, and Hunter. It was decided to inaugurate a Mining Exchange, and Mr. David Philp was appointed secretary pro. tern. Further consideration of details, &c, was postponed until a fuller meeting, which the secretary was instructed to advertise for Wednesday next. — Advertiser.
