VAG-RAXcr. —Mcvy Minnix, |for having no lawful visible means of support, was sent to gaol for a month. Mm In. Li!'y, fora siur'la.l offence, having been five times prev'ously convioled, was scat to gaol for tlr-ce months.

Ued to the house of defendant about ha'f-pait one in the inornrig of Srnday last. I sj,\v a crowd of people rapping at the door. I th'nk I saw one go in. Heai'd a number of people tilling -'uside. Heurd bottles being uncorked. I then rapped at the side door, not saying who I wa^. On going to the front I knocked, md srfd the police p-e here; Iwc'itto get iv." Repeated the statement a gjeat many t;me3. Fr'.naHy, Mrs. Trimble asked ''Who i- there?" Told her, and asked oclurtfcance. Slie repl:ed, "You can't get in." I insisted on gett:ng in. Soon after, the side door was opened by Mrs. Tumble. Was in UT> v"oi.ai. Found two men sitting in the room behind the bar. Tximble came f.-om the back of the premises. Saw a number of persons, ?.icluci;ng prostitutes coming down We^osley-stveet as from Trimble's house. —Cross-exaurned by MY.- Rees.—Robert Scragga ; constable, corroborated the previous evidence.— Cross-examined by Mr. Sees: There was no person knocking at the door when Sei'geant Egan and I came to the door. —For the defence, M". Grant, b^vmpn in the Oriental, deposed that on the occasion he was in front of the bar. Defendant had given orders not to open the door any more. Heard a knock; I took no notice of it. The knock continued, and Mvs. Tumble went to the door. On going to the door saw Mr. Trimble struggling with some person. Had heard no one speak of the police at a ll. If any .pevson had said he. was a policeman I would have heard it. There were no corks drawn during the knocking. Was close to the bor-door. No person wont out of the back-doov dr 'ng the knocking—Mr. Green, a night watchman, sworn, deposed: Remembered passing Trimble's house between 12 and 1 o'clock. If the^ police had been demanding admission ho must have heard it. —The Bench fried defendant £5 and costs.
Assault on the Poiice.—Anne Trimble, charged with assaulting Sergeant Egan in the execution of his duty on the morning of the 19th inst., at tho Oriental Hotel, Queen-street. —Mr. Rees appeared for the defendant.—Mi\ liees applied for an adjournment, for the purpose of obtaining a cross summons for an assault by Sergeant Egon on Mrs. Tmnble.— The Court adjourned tiU 2 o'clock.
