ONEHUNGA.
In the Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, before James Naughton, Esq., R.M., the following cases were heard : — Breach op the Licensing Act, 1871. — Matthew Cullen, of the Victoria Hotel, OnoImuga, was charged with a breach of the 39th clause of the new Licensing Act, by not keeping his lamp alight.—Defendant pleaded guilty, but in extenuation, said he always lit the lamp himself, but on this occasion he was detained late in Auckland, but on his return at once lit the lamp.—Constable Green, who laid the information, said complaints had been made to him that the lamp was sometimes not lit, and on this occasion it was not alight between 11 and 12 o'clock at night.— The Court, after a warning, inflicted a nominal fine of 6s. and costs.
Civil Cases.—Schmidt r. Campbell, claim £2 Bs. 7cl. ; no appearance of defendant, but a -written application had been received asking for an adjournment, as ho was engaged on n Government contract in the Waikato, which was allowed by the Court. — Schmidt v. MeKetme, claim £1 10s. 7d.; no appearance. — Bjcroft v. Hodgson, claim £8 125.; no appearance. — Kelly v. Bilkey, claim .€1 ; no appearance.
