OBITUARY
By the European mail tliis morning, we regret to say thnt there has arrived the melancholy intelligence of tlie death of Mrs. rh'uce, wife of Hey. David Bruce, of St. Andrew's Church, Auckland. The deceased lady was staying at the residence of her brother-in-law, the Key. A. B. Brnce, of Broughty Ferry, near Dundee, in Scotland ; and as the scarlatina was at the time in the family, it may be supposed that this was the disease to which she succumbed. The sad intelligence will be received with deep and general sorrow. Mrs. Bruce was so affectionately esteemed, not only among her immediate circle of friends, but by all acquainted with her, that her loss will be felt by a very large number as a pprsonal bereavement. Deep sympathy is felt for Mr. Bruce, to whom this has been the heaping of sorrow upon sorrow. On the 19th of November his father (Mr. David Bruce) died at Forgandenning. On the 29th of the same month the second son of his brother, in whose house he was staying, died of scarlatina, and then four days after his beloved wife is added to the numbor. It is not often that the hand of affliction is laid so heavily, and all this so rapidly succeeding to the reunion of friends, after so many years of separation, roust have been very sad. If general and sincere sympathy can alleviate distress the sorrowing survivors have this alleviation in their bereavement.
