ADELAIDE.

January 16.—The ships White Eagle and Collingrovo, both of which sailed from Plymouth on the 2nd of November, arrived here together this morning; the White Enp-lc beiu^ about three hours a-head. Great interest was felt in the ocean race between tho two vessels.—The corn market is very firm, and holders now ask 4s. lOd. for good sam-

pies of wheat, while buyers are offering 4s 9d. No transactions, however, are reported to-day. January 17. —The commercial news brought by the Avoca is considered on the whole satisfactory, and although the state of the English corn market is likely to check operations here, the shipments to England are likely to be continued.

January 18.—The Governor's despatches are merely confirmatory of the press despatches as to the position of the question between England and Russia, and they state that all fears of further complications were allayed. The corn market has been paralysed since the receipt of the mail news, and both buyers and sellers arc holding off. There is very little business doing, and 4s 7d is the highest price offering for good samples of wheat.
