ANNIVERSARY DAY.

Monday, being the anniversary of the foundation of the colony, will doubtless be kept as a close holiday, and the citizens will bo glad to avail themselves of this charming weather in keeping the natal day ol the land of their adoption. Of course, the great event of the day will be the regatta, and the beauties of our unrivalled harbour will.be enhanced by the life and gaiety and happiness that will float on the waters, and cover* the shores of the Waiternata. We suppose everybody and his wife will be there, and all his children; and the harbour will be resplendent with bunting and general holiday attire. We are glad to learn that Captain Fairchild has kindly placed tho Government steamer Luna at the service of the Regatta Committee, and that steamer as flag-ship will do the honors which would have been so gallantly sustained by Captain Ashby and the City of Auckland but for the unfortunate occurrence which has laid her temporarily aside. We sincerely hope that our fellow citizens will thoroughly enjoy themselves ; and to New Zealand we beg to tender our birthday congratulations, and wish her, as is the custom, " many happy returns of the day." The beautiful Golden Crown will afford a pleasant excursion to those who desire to see the Thames and return in one dajr. Cremorne Gardens will present many attractions, being open on the occasion, and the soiree in connection with the Presbyterian Church at the North Shore, to be held in Mr. JNiccol's building at the Piitenfc fclip, will afford to a large number a very agreeable close to the various 'Anniversary Day enjoyments ; while the Bellringers will, on (his side the water, ring out their quaint symphonies with the "Rhyming and the chiming of tho bells."
