Sincere regret is felt among the Masonic and Foresters' fraternities, and a large circle of friends, at the early and melancholy death •this morning, of Mr. William Mason. Engaged as Landing Waiter, and fulfilling its duties in a manner giving singular satisfaction, he gave promise of rapid advancement, aud, ultimately, rising to a high position in the Customs ; while his disposition endeared him to all those with whom he came in contact. It is supposed that on this day week Mr. Mason was affected by sun-stroke, having been engaged from early morning till late at night on board the Hero. Since that, time he has been ailing, but not in any way to cause apprehension till shortly before he breathed his last. Mr. Mason leaves a wife and four children, to whom he was exceedingly attached. We observe that for the funeral tomorrow, the Masons aud Foresters, in their various lodges, have rpsolved to pay tho last honors of their rites, and their last tribute of respect and affection to their departed brother.

The s.s. Taranaki arrived this morning from the South. Her news lias been anticipated by Greville's telegrams received via.Tauranga.

A woman in Nelson-street was this morning fearfully gored by a bull, and is nosy lying in a dangerous state,
