Deotken^ess. — Three drunkards were punished in the usual manner. Tag-bant.—Ellen McLean, an old offender, was fined 10s., or to be imprisoned 48 hours with three months' additional.
Robbeby.— Hdward Jones was charged by Agues JTawkner, of Albert-street, with having stolen two pairs trousers from her clothes line, value 30s. Prosecutor deposed to the loss of the clothing produced, and an assistant of Mr. Neumagen's proved that prisoner pawned the goods. Another charge of having stolen 7s. 10J. from K. fciavory was withdrawn. On the former charge prisoner was sentenced to four months' imprisonment. Robbery prom: a Dwelling. — Robert Leary was charged by Henry Schuhmaeher witli having stolen wealing apparel, value£lo, from his dwelling-house in Mount-street, between the 16th and 18th instant.—Prosecutor deposed that he was a mariner, and leaving his house on the 16th locked the door and nailed the windows. On returning on the 18th he found the door burst, the blankets stripped off the bed, and the clothes taken out of tlie box. The articles were valued at £11. ■Identified the articles produced by Detec tive Ternahan as those stolen.—Constable Molloy, stationed at Otaliuku, deposed to having arrested tho prisoner on the 19th motant. Had seen a large bag with prisoner, and in consequence of previous character took the bag, which he found to contain the articles now identified. Prisoner stated he had bought the articles. —Detective Ternahan deposed to having a conversation wilh prisoner, who s.iid he had seen, a man plant the articles, and he had then sprung the plant, and said the man was a. stranger to him.—Prisoner was committed for trial.— John Clune was charged by John Chose with having stolen from Waikomiti, gum, clothing, and other articles, to the value of £1 15s. 7d. On the application of Mr. Broham, the case waa adjourned till Friday.
City Rates.—*'. H. White, charged with refusing to pay city rates, was, on the evidence of Mr. Diddams, and default of appearance of defendant, adjudged to pay the amount, £4 lUs., and costs.—Several ether similar cases had been settled out of Court.
