THE EXECUTIVE.
As might be anticipated, all sorts of speculations have been indulged with reference to the pi'obable successor of Mr. Mitchell, as G-oldfields Secretary. We learn from authentic sources that there is no intention of appointing any one to fill the vacant office at present.
THE CITY OF AUCKLAND. An unsuccessful attempt was made this morning to raise the ship City of Auckland. Mr. Meed's men were working at ber all nights and succeeded in blocking up the holes cut in her sides yesterday. When the tide was iull in tins inornipg the water was over tbe topgallant rail amidships, or nearly level with the poop. A strong gang of men are now at work pumping, and we believe another, we trust successful, attempt will be made this evening to raise her.
