Mr. Carter, of the Slaughter-yards, doubtless thanks his stars for " privilege." Immense damage may be done to a njan's y character beneath itr~irtretter whether in the legislature or elsewhere. We think his Honor the Superintendent . should not have sheltered Mr. Carter in ] the Police Court to-day. The precedent is bud, and the lavor extended to this protege may be dangerous to the interests of the community.
