January 11.—There is to be a conference between both houses on the Land Bill, and should they not agree to pass the bill, it is probable the Assembly will adjourn for a fortnight, to enable the Government to gazette the new hundreds. —The sugar per Mary Hamilton is selling at very full rates.

January 12.—8y an accident on the Northern line, five men were seriously hurt.—The report of the Adelaide Meat Preserving Company is favourable.—lt is proposed to amalgamate tho Adelaide and Provincial Gas Companies.—The two Houses of Parliament have come to a dead lock over the Land Bill. They cannot agree on the residence clause and the forty-acre qualification. Another conference takes place to-day.—The cargo of deals, ex Louis de Gear, sold at 3Jd to 4^d. — Good country flour sold at £11 10s ; wheat is very firm, a sale took place at 4s 9d for immediate delivery ; cornsacks, 12s 6d to 12s 9d. —Governme t have called for tenders for the conveyance of goods to Port Darwin.

January 14-.—The Land Bill was finally lost by the casting vote of the Speake •, who voted against accepting the compromise offered by the Council. A short Act was immediately passed through all its stages, in the Assembly, empowering the Government to proclaim additional agricultural areas, and altering some conditions of the present Act.—Lowman, a passenger by the St. Vincent, having beeu brought up by the Customs on a charge of undervaluing his furniture, the goods, valued at £700, were forfeited. — The Council passed the Interim Land Bill without amendment, and Parliament is prorogued till 31st March.—The Government announced that notice has been given to the Imperial postal authorities of the discontinuance of a participation in the ocean mail contract unless the steamers call at a convenient port in South Australia.—The Government have promised to call Parliament together in case of any political emergency.—Sales of wheat took place at 4s. 9d.
