January 12. Messrs. Taylor and Borlaise addressed their constituents on Tuesday night and were well received. Mr. Plimmer, a supporter of Mr. Richmond endeavoured to obtain a hearing, but was hissed down. Messrs. Hunter and Pearce have received requisitions asking them to stand for the Assembly. The candidates now in the field are Messrs. Borlaise, Hunter, Pearce, and Richmond. ' The Land Transfer Hill will come into operation in the first week in February. Mr. Fox, the Premier, has gone up with the first coach through to Taranald via Paten. Tho vessels in harbour 10-day displayed their bunting, in honor of ths marriage of Miss Featherutone, daughter of Dr. Featherstone. January 13. The nomination of candidates for Purirua came off to-day. Messrs. Brandon and Gillon came forward. Tho show o hands was for the former, who is considered sure of being returned. The s.s. Storm Bird arrived froui the North yesterday. The s.s Go-Ahead has been purchased at Tar-maki bva comnany. The Bellringers will be in Auckland by next steamer.
