HORRIBLE MURDER AT HOKTTIKA

January 11. A dreadful occurrence took place hereon Saturday evening last, namely the violation and murder of a girl of only eight years of age. Ber home was entered by means of a false key during the absence of her parents. A colored man, named Antonio NoMe, was arrested next morning, as being implicated in the crime. Yesterday an inquest, was held, when the coroner's jury returned a verdict of wilful murder. In all probability tho case will be tried before the Circuit Court now sitting. January 12. At the Circuit Court, to-day, Margaret, Qnigley, indicted for the murder of Georgo Patenande, a Canadian, at Noble's, in the Grey district, was found guilty of raamhughter, ami sentenced to four rears' penal servitude. Captain David Souter, indicted for the murder of Marr Ann llamel, was found guilty, and received sentence of death. When '-he Ju lg • assumed the black cup, Souter fainted in the dock, and was held up while the sentence w is pronounced.
The Ohar'es Edward arrived yesterday, and sailed again to-day.
