AUCKLAND SUNDAY-SCHOOL UNION.
The annual gathering of this society took place yesterday afternoon, in the Wesleyan High-street Chapel, that place of worship being the only one in the town sufficiently commodious to accommodate all the children and visitors who assemble on those occasions. The building, if possible, was more crowded this year than previous ones, the galleries and body of the chapel being as full as it was possible to be. The lower portion of the chapel was occupied by the children and teachers connected with the Union, and other children, parents, and friends filled the galleries. Theiv could not have been less than from 1500 to IGO persons present. Mr. Battlcy conducted the proceedings, and after giving out the first of the hymns printed for the occasion, called on Mr. Wood to engage in prayer. Mr. Barton delivered the first address, choosing for his subject the words "Loving kindness." Mr. Barton treated his subject in a very practical and interesting manner, aud was listened to with the greatest attention. The Rev. J. Buller next addressed the children, taking for his text, " Moses being discovered in tho ark of bulrushes by Pharaoh's daughter." A lengthy and interesting address was delivered, in which the responsibility and privileges of
f teachers were enforced. Mr. Ij^er HluaI trated the different parts of his subject by 1 numerous and appropriate anecdotek The singing was conducted by Mr. Glanville, and this highly interesting gathering dispersed at about a quarter to-5 o'clock.
