The proceeds are to be devoted to charitable purposes. The p.s. Sumson, which hits been lying under the North Head since Wednesday, will leave for Wan^are: this evening. The new steamer G-olden Crown is to make an excursion trip to the Kawtiu and Hot Springs on Monday and Tuesday next. Capt. Ellis, a universal favourite with passengers, and for many months engaged in the Thames trade, has received the appointment of master, and will take charge to-day. It is expected thut the G-olden Crown w.ll steam faster than any other vessel in New Zealand.

The s.s. City of Melbourne, expected on the 6th January, is the next steamer due fiom Sydney. She will most likely be the bearer of our mails via Suez. The City leaves this port on the,7th, with the California!* mails.

The s.s. Storrabird may be looked for tomorrow in the Manukau from Southern ports. She will probably bring the English telegrams,
