THE BAZAAR.
It is exceedingly gratifying to record that the greatest success attended the bazaar last night in aid of the funds of All Saints' Church. There was a perfect throng, and we believe the sum of a hundred pounds has been the handsome result of the opening night. The young ladies were indefatigable in their efforts, and their persuasive powers absolutely irresistible. Of course, the evening was very pleasant to all. The air filled with harmony floating from the stage screed to hush the sweet nothings that had such potent influence over the purse-strings of the gentlemen present, while the excitement of the throng and the fervour of doing good was ample apology for the flashing of the bright eyes, that spake love to eyes that spake again, and all went merry as a marriage bell. Everyone seemed happy, even the poor victims, who seemed to pay so pleasantly. We do not hesitate to say that of all the forms of direct taxation there is none so endurable as that extorted by the
sweet face and the soft pleadings of a pretty girl, a view which we hare formed from the happy Acquiescence in the most outrageous extortions which we occasionally observed last night beaming from the face of many contributors to the funds of All Saints' Church. We understand His Loyal Highness and the Vice-Regal family will lend additional eclat to the proceedings to night.
