ARRIVAL OF THE 'SAMSON.'
RECEPTION
of the
PRINCE AT TAURANGA.
FIGHTING- BETWEEN THE AEAWAS and NG-AETEEANGHS.
The p.s. Samson arrived from Tauranga this morning, having left on the previous day. Captain Mundle informs us that the Luna with His Excellency the G-overnor, H.R. T i
the Duke of Edinburgh, and suite, arr-L~ safely at Tauranga on tho 13th inst. The day was observed as a general holiday, and everybody turned out to receive the Royal party, a large number of natives being present. The Gate Pa and several other places of in-
tercst were visited. The party left Maketu on Thursday. A disturbance occurred at Tauranga on Thursday, which will probably terminate with fatal results. A large body of natives —Arawas and Ngaiterangi — had assembled to sco the Prince, and immediately after his departure, one of the Arawas struck one of the other tribe, when a general fight took place, in which a.Mr. Swan, of the Con-
stabalary, was knocked down insensible. Several natires received very ugly blows, some of which will very probably prove fatal. The Constabulary were ultimately called out, and the natives returned home.
