THE WARDENSHIP AT THE THAMES.
To the Editor of the Evening- Star,
SIE, —In your issue of yesterday I observe reference made to me as having presented a deputation sent from the Thames with a petition against stationing Major Jackson Keddell a3 Warden of that field. As one of the members for the Thames, it is my duty to present any deputation that may apply to me to do so; and I owe no duty to my colleagues in the Executive that is superior to what I owe to my constituents. Aside from that, however, I object to Major Kuddell being again stationed at the Thames as Warden, and I repeat now what I said to Mr. Vogol six weeks ago, namely, that I hope Major Zeddell will not be sen to the Thames, as it would tend to greatly disturb the confidence of every man on the field in thejust and impartial administion of justice. Theallegationtliut Major Keddel is a gentleman ia not denied. I say i hat, owing to what is notorious on the Thames, Mnjor Keddell can only be sent there in utter defiance of public feeling and public opinion.—l have, &c., Chabmss P. Mitchell. Auckland, December 13, 1870.
