BURGLARY AT THE REV. MR. LUSH'S RESIDENCE.

Last night about 8 o'clock the residence of the Rev. Mr. Lush was broken into and a large number of va uable articles stolen therefrom. The thief entered through a side window, which was left unfastened, shortly before the rev. gentleman and hia family returned from church. It appears that as Mr. Lush was returning to his home after service he noticed a light burning in his dwelling, and hastened to ascertain the cause. On arriving at the front door he noticed a person decamping the back way, and on pursuing him found he had a number of articles of wearing apparel, &c, stolen from the house. The rev-: gentleman pursued some distance, but was ultimately compelled to give in. The thief, finding he was pursued, and apparently recognising his pursuer, turned his head aside as he was running, and said, "If you come too near me, sir, I'll shoot you." The pursuit was kept up across the creek, and over fences, until the thief had disappeared. Several articles of wearing apparel, a bill-hook, some silver, and other very valuable property, were picked up on the road traversed by the thief in his flight. Information was at once given to the police, and the search renewed, but but without success. Amongst the articlesrais3ed were a presentation gold watch, value £25, the property of Miss Lush; a purse containing money and a brooch left by Miss Martin, of the Tamaki, who was recently on a visit to the the reverend gentleman's ; a purse and money, the amount of which is not known, belonging to Mr. Lu*h,a brooch belonging to Miss Lush, silver-plate, spoons, &c, which have not yet been recovered, i nor has any further trace of the burglar been detected.— Thames Evening Mail.
